Some Facts About LED Bulbs

LEDbulb1Environmentally-friendly LED bulbs continue to grow in popularity because of their longevity and energy savings.

Early versions of LED bulbs often cast a blue hue, but today’s LEDs can mimic the white or yellow glow of incandescent or fluorescent lights.

Typically, you can expect an LED bulb to last about 50,000 hours—compared to 2,000 hours of use you used to get from an incandescent light. It would take 42 incandescent bulbs to provide 50,000 hours of use; and five CFLs to provide the same.

LEDs use only 20-25 percent of the energy an incandescent bulb uses. And LEDs last longer than CFL bulbs, which generate more heat and contain mercury.

You may spend more on an LED bulb upfront, but they pay for themselves in the long term and end up being more cost efficient than other types of bulbs. You can find LED bulbs for as low as $10 and their cost should continue to drop as more consumers turn to LEDs for indoor lighting needs.

LEDs don’t actually burn out, but their light gradually fades as time goes by. If you want to replace a 60 watt incandescent bulb, you should choose a 10 watt LED bulb.
