Electrical Safety Tips Around the House

According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), each year more than 2,500 people die and 12,500 are injured in house fires in the U.S. Direct property loss due to house fires is estimated at $7.3 billion annually.

At Oak Electric, we offer customers a Free Electrical Safety Inspection while we are on the job. It includes a visual inspection of service panels, main service cables and ground system; testing of GFCI receptacles; location and testing of smoke detectors; and other preventive checks.

Among the biggest fire potentials in the home are faulty electrical wires, plugs and panels and the misuse of electrical outlets and extension cords. Plugging multiple extension cords together or having multiple power strips linked together and plugged into one outlet will overload the circuit and increase the potential for problems.

If you have had flooding at your house this season, be sure to have us check your electrical service panels for damage you may not be aware of.
